FluffEdit

Description: Raiko is a young, large Dragonborn from the Jade Empire. His scales are a reddish brown with just the tiniest hint of green here and there. He holds himself rigidly, from years of discipline and training. He is rarely seen outside of his full plate armor, which as of late is in less than perfect condition. On one hip rests his long katana and on the other a loose sling. His shield has been dyed and emerald green and is rimmed with iron bands.

BackgroundEdit

Raiko is a paladin form the Jade Empire. His family, has kept a rich warrior tradition for many generations. His father serves in the Iron Shogun's army as an officer, and a certain sense of pride and duty filled his young life. Devoted to his nation, he grew up in training from an early age to help route out the Oni threat, inlcuding formal training at the Academy of Radiant Truth.

He fought directly in the war, for the last two years and decided that there was only one way to end the threat for good in his lifetime. He had to find the seventh sword of Kathanki Dreido. So he took leave of his duties and set off on his quest. His father outwardly disapproved of his actions, but in truth, his family keeps great hopes for his destiny.

In addition to his father, Raiko also left behind a mother and sister, both seamstress' with his mother specializing in cloth, leather and hide armor.

Generations ago, Dreido was a master swordsmith. It is said that his very first sword, was so exquisite that he was immediately declared a master in his field. Guided by the spirits of ancient heroes and distant powers, Dreido took years to finish each blade. He only finished seven in his lifetime. It is said, that the master died right before he had finished his last weapon. An incredible powerful silver dragon, was watching him in secret at the time. He allowed Dreido's spirit to finish his work, but in order to do so Dreido's spirit was bound into the blade. It is said that the seventh sword has the power to track down evil demons and destroy their very essence.

HooksEdit

  • Raiko is loyal to the Iron Shogun, and an enemy of demons and Oni everywhere. He would be easily convinced to defend the Empire or strike at those foes.
  • Raiko is convinced he will find the sword, only if the sword allows it, and must prove his honor and ability first.
  • Raiko is quick to anger if someone speak ill of his country or his personal honor.
  • Even though the other swords are not his destiny, he will pursue them if he hears they are not in decent hands.
  • Raiko's family members are welcome to be used as NPCs.

Please note, the most desired item Raiko has is the Seventh Sword of GrandMaster Kathanki Dreido. However, this should be an epic level item. In the meantime if you want to include one of the other six swords as treasure for Raiko, that would be neat. Kingdom of Jade: Regional Benefit

+1 on insight checks; individuals from the restrained culture of the Kingdom show very little emotion; a social response to fear that powerful emotions open the way to corruption by the shadow. While this bottling up of emotion doesn't seem to actually be particularly effective in resisting corruption non-members of their culture often find them excruciatingly difficult to read in social situations. They receive +2 on social bluff checks against individuals who are not from their region*.

(*)For the avoidance of doubt we reiterate that this bonus only applies to social situations. Uses of the bluff skill to Gain Combat Advantage or Create a Diversion to Hide (phb 183) do not receive the bonus.
