Effect: The burst creates a zone that lasts until the end of the encounter. The ground zone is difficult terrain for your enemies. When an enemy charges, its movement cannot include any square of the ground in the zone

Hunter's Thorn Trap (Encounter Minor ✦ Primal, Zone)

Effect: The target becomes a zone that lasts until the end of the encounter or until an enemy enters it. Without a perception check (DC 25), your enemies notice neither the zone or your use of the power. When an enemy enters the zone, the enemy takes 9 damage and is immobilized until the end of Quan's next turn.
Healing Lore (Daily Minor ✦ Primal, Healing)

Effect: The target can spend a healing surge.
Assassin's Shroud (Encounter Free Action ✦ Shadow)
Target: Close Burst 10,
Effect: Quant subjects the target to his shroud. If any shroud is already on the target, you subject it to an additional shroud, up to a maximum of four. The shrouds last until you use the power against a different enemy or the end of the encounter. Before he makes an attack against the target, Quan decides to invoke one or all of the shrouds. If invoked, the attack deals 1d6 damage per shroud, minues one shroud if the attack misses, and all the shrouds then vanish from the target. The damage roll never benefits from bonuses to damage rolls, and is in addition to the attack's damage, if any.
Special: You can use this power only on your turn and only once per turn. You can use it no more than twice each encounter.

If your check succeeds, you determine the number and nature of the creatures which have moved through the area in the past 24 hours. You ascertain when and where they entered the area, as well as when and where they left.

Effect: Quan's successful Athletics checks to climb reduce the DC of that climb by 2 for his allies who can see him make the check.

Background[]

Leopold Quantico Thatcher was born in the militant kingdom of Baskrant. His mother passed after childbirth. His father, a poor laborer, raised his three sons as best he could. His father alway's called him "Quan" as it was his wife's choice of name. His early life was unremarkable, working as his father's assistant. As per the monarch's rule, all men are conscripted into the military at manhood. With a heavy heart, his father sent Leopold to the service which had already claimed the lives of his older siblings.

Leopold was nicknamed "Tadpole" right after his conscription due to his small size. He retained this nickname throughout his time with the Baskrant military. What he did not possess in physcial power, Tadpole made up for in lightning quick reflexes. Given his natural talents, he was assigned to the scout division and he excelled at reconnaissance and stealth. He was a quick study with a bow. Tadpole recieved special training in marksmanship, stealth and assassination techniques. He rose in respect and rank quickly.

As the art of stealth and observation came naturally, Tapdpole was assigned to many missions outside of Baskrant. He was able to monitor people of many nations and observe different cultures. It was then that he realized that he had not lived in a pleasant place. Baskrant was an oppressive place, under strict militant rule with poor treatment of all its inhabitants, but especially the demihumans. Most dwarves, halflings, and gnomes were slaves. Goblins were only slightly better treated, considered second class citizens.

While on these missions outside of his homeland, Leopold began to commune with the spirits of the earth, learning much of nature and the influence of the earth spirits. He came to despise the country of his birth, wishing to leave and start a new life elsewhere.

Leaving the military in Baskrant while capable of serving was punishable by death. It was not until the kingdom became assaulted by the kingdom of Ravina that Leopold saw an opportunity for escape. Leopold was assigned to a special infiltration squad to sneak behind enemy lines and assassinate the generals and leaders of the assaulting forces, hoping to throw the offensive into disarray.

Leopold lead the forces to land. Scouting ahead, he recognized that the area was extremely dangerous with patrols and heavy forces at the ready. He took his squad of potential assassins into the heart of the reserve forces and lead them right into a trap. Leopold hid at the last moment and watched as his companions were cut down in the fight.

At that time, several adventurers recruited for special operations were returning to Daunton. Leopold disguised himself as an adventurer to escape the war. He took on the moniker "Quan" in order to help invent a new identity. He hitched a ride to Daunton with the other returning adventurers.

Personality: Quan is quiet, reserved, and mildly paranoid. He's worried that he will be pursued for his actions and leaving his native country. Quan is also quite cynical, observing the injustices of his homeland. At times, he may make biting comments about unfair situations.
Physical Description: Quan is broad shouldered but thin. His face is pockmarked and worn. His hair is tight cropped and brown. The leather armor he wears is dark, almost black. A well used longsword sits at his left hip and a large bow is strapped across his back, over his traveling cloak. When in town, the bow is unstrung and carried about like a walking stick.

Hooks[]

  • Quan is career military. He is used to a purpose and usually a hierarchy of command. As he was never high in rank, he takes direction well.
  • Quan is intrigued by his connection with the earth. This was not encouraged during his time in the service of Baskrant, and now he is more willing to pursue his natural aspects.
  • After leading his squad into a trap, Quan is uncertain if any of the assassins survived. He is worried that his betrayal and deception will make its way back to Baskrant and someone could come looking for him.

  • Quan is now all on his own, having left his life in the army behind, leading his squad into enemy forces and betraying his native country. He is worried he will be persecuted by his homeland and not accepted if people knew his secret.
