General Information[]
Description: Corvus was tall, taller than an average man, especially in his small village of Chelenshire, and he was a rather inconspicuous figure. In his younger days, Corvus had been mountainous, his body covered with layers of rock-solid muscle. Middle-Age stole that from him, though a combination of strict exercise and natural inclination saved from going to fat, as so many former men of war inevitably did. He is now quite wiry, slender to the point of gaunt. Corvus' face was one of edges and angles, striking without being handsome, and the gaze of his green eyes piercing. Hair once brown had grayed; it hung just past his neck, giving him a vaguely feral demeanor. Even now he could do the work of a man half his age, but he wasn't what he used to be.
Background: Corvus was a leader of men on the battlefields of the Jade Empire, he rose up from the middle class, an idealist who was strong of arm and was able to inspire others. He battled the Oni that threatened his land, but after a battle in which he lost his entire squad, Corvus' heart for war left him. Corvus' asked for and received a discharge from the army, and he traveled to Daunton, spending a considerable amount of his wealth on the travel over and spent some time in Daunton in the poorer sections. He kept his armor, blade and gear though, carried around in a sack, like so much flour.
Eventually, Corvus took a wife, Lilander, and they settled in a small village in the interior of Daunton, known as Chelenshire. He built their house by hand, a point he takes great pride in. He built the house on the outskirts of town, near enough to be neighborly, but retained a certain modicum of privacy unattainable in the heart of the small, but bustling village. They had two children, an older daughter name Tyannon and a younger son named Mellorin. They were eight and five respectively. Corvus seemed like he had a happy life, everything pointed to him living out the twilight years of his life in comfort, but it was not to be. The dreams started months ago, not strong at first, but growing in intensity. They were haunting nightmares, of the dreadful day when his men were slaughtered in an Oni trap. He always wondered why he was left to live, when the others should die. He always chalked it up to luck or coincidence, but now he believed it was fate. Some power was drawing him back into the fray. Corvus crept from his bedroom one night, creeping slowly to the storage attic, pushing past the memories of his recent years and headed towards the far wall. He found the small handle to the storage closet, slightly corroded, and covered with dust and cobwebs.
Corvus opened the door, it shot open as if spring-loaded, a sudden burst of musty air puffed outwards, the cloud of dust rising above him like some enraged spirit that was supposed to have been in eternal slumber. Once the dust cleared and his eyes settled to the dim light, Corvus saw the black drop cloth over the large chest. And within that chest lay his longsword, a suit of black armor, spiked, and a helm formed to evoke an iron-banded skull. After trying it on, and finding that he had to tighten a lot of the straps to their limits, having lost a lot of muscle mass over the last few years, Corvus searched for a mirror. It was there that he saw Lilander, her arms crossed, left foot tapping to some unheard drummer and one eyebrow raised. Crovus had never told her what he was back in the Empire, just that he had left because of some great pain. After long and difficult discussions, Corvus loaded up the family horse, kissed his family good bye and traveled to Daunton, knowing that there was a famous tavern there, the Hanged Man, where one could find friends, comrades, allies, to aid him in his quest, and Corvus thought that if this truly was fate calling him into battle once more, he would be ready.
